I hope that
everyone enjoyed their summer and is excited for the fall semester to begin.
The Huskie Line bus system
along with the Freedom Mobile and Late Night Ride comprise one of the largest
student-run transit systems in the country, and I am honored to serve NIU and
the DeKalb community as the Director of Mass Transit for the upcoming year.
With the current
economic situation our country and state face, my top priority for the summer
was to reduce spending without reducing service to the campus and surrounding
areas. With a few minor changes, we have been able to sustain nearly the same
service range as last year.
One change to last
year’s system is converting the 5 Route from a 20 minute route to a 30 minute
route. Buses will now come every ten minutes which will prevent back-ups in the
route. Also on the 5, we have changed the route to travel down Normal Rd. in
order to expand service closer to the Barsema Hall and
Engineering
Building area. It is my
hope that these changes will enhance service to the students.
Noting these
changes, it is my duty to provide the best transit system for the students. With
that being said, should you have any questions, comments or concerns throughout
the year, please inform me directly at 815-753-0308. I will also be holding open
forums across campus as well as visiting different student groups during the
year in order to hear the feelings and opinions of the campus.
I hope that with
cooperation between the students and I, we may create a transit system that
meets the needs of all students. Good luck to everyone in the upcoming year. |
